Juvenile Corrections Officer – Intermittent/On Call
Minimum Qualifications To meet employment eligibility requirements for appointment as a Juvenile Corrections Officer, a person must: Be nineteen years of age or older Be of good moral character (e.g., no disqualifying criminal history or violations of moral turpitude) Have obtained a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) Have a valid driver’s license Have a good driving record Have reliable transportation Have and maintain telephone services for on-call or emergency recalls. Must be reliable and motivated towards helping others; be mature, patient and show evidence of personal qualities or character and empathy; be able to use good judgement, able to control temper, relate in a friendly manner and follow guidelines, policies and procedures; be able to work in close contact with juvenile detainees and must be able to work with emotionally disturbed and/or violent children. Officers work a flexible schedule that may include night shifts, weekends and holidays. This job has the potential of becoming full time. Starting pay $20.16/hr. Preference may be given to applicants who: have acquired a baccalaureate degree conferred by a college or university accredited by an accrediting organization; have one or more year(s) of experience in full-time corrections, or with a juvenile agency that deals with offenders, or emotionally disturbed and/or violent children; or those who have served honorably in the U.S. military.
Teacher – Full Time
Teachers of the Northwest Ohio Juvenile Detention, Training and Rehabilitation Center will
provide yearly academic instructions to juvenile residents confined in the Detention Center and
teach residents in accordance with professional teaching standards, program goals and
structure.
Responsibilities:
- Provides services that implement the educational mission of the Detention Center.
- Assess educational needs of juvenile residents.
- Analyzes records to identify students’ immediate and long-range needs.
- Collaborate with schools to ensure students are placed in correct courses, and high
school graduation requirements are being fulfilled. Occasionally provide information
to schools in regards to student on IEP’S. - Provides individualized instructions and training to students, as needed.
- Conducts on-going assessment of student progress to update record for student’s
needs and corresponding instructional and training program. - Counsels each student regarding his/her academic and behavioral progress.
- Participates in instructional treatment activities.
- Responsible for implementation of all Detention Center policies.
- Plans, oversees, supervises and participates in other school and Detention Center
activities. - Prepares required records and reports (e.g., educational transcripts, grades,
students’ progress). - Researches, selects and recommends new teaching materials.
- All other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: To meet employment eligibility requirements for appointment as a
Juvenile Corrections Teacher, a person must:
- Be twenty-one years of age or older
- Be of good moral character (e.g., no disqualifying criminal history or violations of moral
turpitude) - Have a current Ohio teacher certificate appropriate for subject area and grade level to be
assigned - Have a baccalaureate degree in education
- Have a valid driver’s license.
Position Specific Minimum Qualifications- Current Ohio Teaching Certificate required (5-year Certificate Preferred)
